Grandfather Kevin Patrick Karan played cricket from Rhodesia. Father Kevin Malcolm Curran played for Zimbabwe. Elder brother Tom was a member of the 2019 ODI World Cup winning England team. This time Sam Karan will return home not only with the T20 World Cup but also with the Player of the Final and Player of the Tournament trophy. Sam, only 24 years old, played a big role in helping England win the World Cup.
Sam, who returned after recovering from injury, bowled deadly in the title match. He took three wickets for 12 runs in four overs. Sam said after the team’s title win, ‘MCG has big square boundaries. I knew how to bowl him to hit the square area of the pitch. The pitch was not as good as we thought. ‘ In the finale at the Melbourne Cricket Ground, Karan bowled two overs in the power-play and two overs in the death overs and did not hit a single boundary. “The boundaries at the MCG were bigger, so in the wicket, it was a challenge for the seamer to get better and chase. The way I bowl, I take wickets with my slower balls and keep the batsmen guessing. We are the champions of the world, it is a different feeling.
Curran was also named player of the tournament for his 13 wickets in six matches at an economy rate of 6.5, including 5/10 in England’s Super 12 opener against Afghanistan in Perth. He missed last year’s T20 World Cup in UAE due to injury and when Australia won the trophy in Dubai.
